Poly Cystic Ovaries

Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrinopathy in women of reproductive age, resulting from insulin resistance and the compensatory hyperinsulinemia. This results in adverse effect on multiple organ systems and may result in alteration in serum lipids, anovulation, abnormal uterine bleeding and infertility. According to Ayurvedic view PCOS can be correlated with Aarthava Kshaya.

According to the Ayurveda therapy of Shodhana, Shamana and Tarpana are recommended. the treatment was conducted in 3 stages for the duration of 6 months. The response to the treatment was recorded and therapeutic effects were evaluated by symptomatic relief and through Trans Vaginal Scan and LH, FSH hormone levels. The results revealed that, subfertility due to PCOS can be cured successfully by using the Ayurveda treatment regimen. Symptoms of PCOD direct the way of involvement of Kapha and Vata Dushti causing Avarodha or Avarana in Artavavaha Srotas. Thus for the treatment Pathadi Kwatha mentioned by Sushruta in Vatakaphaja Artavadushti was selected. This drug contains Patha (Cissampelos pareira Linn.), Shunthi (Zingibar officinalis Roxb.), Maricha (Piper nigrum Linn.), Pippali (Piper longum Linn.), and Kutaja (Holarrhena antidysenterica Roxb.ex. Fleming) in equal proporation. Shatapushpa (Anethum sowa Kurz.) is the drug of choice in any disease related to Artavain any form so Shatapushpa Taila Matra Basti (STMB) was selected.
